Today we ventured over to Vapnartak at York. This years we put on a participation game - Blasthof Bridge - one of the all time classic scenarios from Charge or How to play Wargames by Messrs Young and Lawford.
The scenario and rules are a great introduction to Horse and Musket gaming and indeed where the rules I first used back in the late 60s with Airfix ACW figures.
The game was well received and we run the it 3 times during the course of the day. In all we had 4 adults and 8 children joining in. My son Max also played all 3 games and helped with running the game.
We had a very enjoyable day out at what is probably the best show up North.
I used Prince August 40mm home cast figures and green painted MDF boards.
I think the game looked - what do you think ?

Mark,
It looked first class. Think we forget sometimes this is really what the hobby is all about. If you want to get youngsters involved what they see has to be achievable for them, more importantly they have to have a good game.
A classic game ! , what wargaming is all about !, Tony
Great looking games, and wonderful to see the classic Prince August minis in such abundance!
10 out of 10, gold star or whatever first rate comment that modern kids will rate highly.
Well done for getting the younger generation involved. A good lesson for Max.
Brought back many schoolboy memories, thank you (I think). I had a long chat with one of the "supervisors". I really hope some youngsters will find some of the joy in gaming that this book brought to me.
I saw it and was tempted to play but it always seemed busy when I went past. I sometimes think that the very pretty games put people off - something a bit simpler and doablecan be just as much a source of inspiration
That's just about as traditional as it gets! Lovely..
Mark,
The photographs dont do the figures justice. Now if you were prepared to cast up a few hundred figures I would 'do' this period game. Well done.
Nice pics. It was a simply lovely looking game. And great to see kids enjoying it.
Ols School eye-candy at is best!
It did look good and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Well done.
Just want to add my appreciation too for you keeping the classic look alive and well. Not something I would achieve myself but it is very nostalgic to look at.
