Some more old Napoleonics

Napoleonics was one of the first periods I gamed along with the ACW.
Today I visited Graham in Otley who kindly returned some figures I gave him a dozen years ago.  Inside the box were some of oldest figures dating from early 70s.  The paint job and basing is interesting to say the least.

There were minifig 25mm figures but also 56 original Hinton Hunt figures I bought from their shop in Camden Passage in Islington.

Old Guard Artillery with cannon from unknown manufacturer.

Old Guard Grenadiers. I had originally organised my units as 20 figures and 2 officers so was clearly influenced by Don Featherstone organisations from War Games. The rest of this unit and the Austro-Hungarians below I sold a few years ago.

Hungarian Grenadiers although some have been painted as Austrians.

A Hungarian Infantry unit including a mounted officer.

And finally a unit of French minifigs 20mm painted as Austrians. I bought these from BMW Models in Haydons Rd in Wimbledon. Just down the road from Plough Lane the original home of my football Wimbledon.

Well having looked at these figures I am sure  I could sell the HH ones however I think I am going to strip and repaint them.

I wonder if any of the modern 20mm ranges will fit in with them. I know John Cunningham does a few recast HH figures amd Douglas figures but what I need is Cavalry.  I do have minifig 25mm Cavalry so perhaps, just as I did as a youngster, I could use both 20mm and early minifig 25mm figures together.

  1. Great old figures! Those Imperial Guard artillery look very like some early 1980s-era 15mm MiniFigs 'Super Detail' crews that I have painted and in a box somewhere here.

They are very nice, as products of their time they are better than that!

  3. I have a very few of those 'first generation' Minifigs in my French army - 36 figures to be precise - enough for 1 unit and half of one. I bought them second hand to augment the 36 'S-range' figures I had bought a few months previous.

Since then I never did have to heart to deep-six them, although for a time they formed two 16-figure 'garrison' battalions. My 'Black Brunswickers' I think are also first generation Minifigs, since when I have added a few 'Warrior' jager, first generation Minifigs lancers/uhlans, and some plastic Italieri hussars.

Although i would have liked consistency throughout my armies, living at the ends of the earth has tended me to take what I can get...

  4. I have a bundle of 25mm Minifigs stashed away in deep storage.

I think they are either Danish or Norwegian.

Some are painted and some are still in poly bags from the day I bought them second hand.

I must hunt them out and see what they really are and sell/trade them for something I can use.

    1. Hi Jim

There seems to be some demand for 25mm Minifigs judging by what I have seen on Ebay.

    1. Yup - Pierrepont Arcade off Camden Passage. To be precise a No 71 to Richmond, 37 to Putney and pick up the No 30.

  7. SHQ Napoleonics go quite well with HH. Newline are a bit too small. I'm told Art Miniaturen also fit but I don't have any examples. If you decide you don't want the Austrian jaegers (or any other Austrians), I'm interested.

    1. I am going to need a few extra fugures to make up the units to 24 figures. I will order a few SHQ infantry and cavalry figures and see howvthey look.

  8. Mark, the gun is by Warrior. I know this be cause I'm painting two of them right now. They are very nice guns and perfect fit for Hinton Hunts!

    Best regards, WM

    1. I would never have guessed the gun was by Warrior. I will have a look at their lists.

  9. The SHQ are much more detailed and a lot easier to paint. I can send a picture if you want.
