French Carabiniers - Work in Progress

I have been painting 12 French Carabiniers over the last few weeks. The main areas are now complete and I am now ready to paint the detailed bits and pieces.

I find the figures really come to life when the detail is added and this helps encourage me to get a unit finished.



I have painted these as the 2nd Carabiniers and have given the  converted trumpeter a white plume, rather than red, as I liked the contrast.


In other news it looks like the Yorkshire chapter of the Hinton Hunters will be putting on a demo game at the Battleground show in Stockton on November 24th.

    Superb work Mark, I particularly like the sheepskin effect!

    The demo game sounds interesting?

      Doing the Sheepskin as dots does give a nice contrast and looks vaguely like a Sheepskin.

    Very handsome! They remind me of some 15mm MiniFig carabiniers I painted 28 (28!!!) summers ago in 1990. Where has the time gone?

    Wow! Beautifully done, Mark, and what incredibly vibrant colours. I'm also a teeny bit jealous as I haven't done any French heavy cavalry yet. They were reserved for phase three but I may have to change that now!

      I used a rather nice shade of light blue which I am sure will look better with two coats of gloss varnish.

    Super stuff Mark, What did you use for the trumpeter conversion and did you pin and glue or solder a new arm on?

      Hi LG

      I posted details on a previous post. Basically I used a plastic trumpet and hand from a Zveszda SYW Prussian Hussar. I just cut the sword and hand from the Hinton figure. I bent the arm and glued the plastic hand to the arm.

    Hi Mark,

    Excellent looking paint job on these figures. I have some of these figures waiting in the wings to be painted as well(from John C). French Carabiniers sport one of my favorite French uniforms, and you have done them proud.

      I have seen pictures showing red, white and sky blue plumes.

      Sky blue would look rather nice.
