A double anniversary- 1st October

The 1st October is a double anniversary.

Firstly the Battle of Lobositz was fought in 1756. I first came across Lobositz in the Miniature Warfare magazine in 1970. I thought I would share this bit of memorabilia.

Oh yes - The 1st October is also my wedding anniversary.

  1. 1970 WarGame Magazine, now that's old school. Nice maps in the article.
Congrats on the Anniversary, mine is today.
    Cheers, Peter

  3. Cracking battle, Lobositz - well worth visiting. Found some of the old terracing on Lobosch Hill and even some feral grapes - not ripe - I know I tried one.... The Homolka mound is is really a great fire position and you realise why the battery wasn't placed at the top - too much dead ground ahead, but if go down a bit you get a great glacis effect. The sunken road has not really survived but the chapel at end of it is still there and obviously the marshy boggy ground has all been drained.
I missed your previous post but I'm a big fan of CHARGE! I have my Blastoff re-fight on the SSM site (also in the now defunct Wargamers Quarterly Notebook) . I often use companies (19 figures) as independent units so 24-man units are not an issue. Bizarrely I have also been thinking of bringing in officer casualties on '6' mainly to cut down the horrendously deadly musketry but also to make more of the in the game - a unit without officers will be penalised. I'm not sure how I'll penalise them -but they won't be able to receive orders not be allowed to receive orders - I plan to allow generals to send their ADCs to take command of such un-officered units.

    1. Hi Rob

The Charge musketry rules are rather bloody. I may use the musketry rules from Grants The Wargame.

  4. I still have that magazine and remember the article, although SYW was a complete mystery to me then (and still is!). Great idea getting married on a battle anniversary as the date is far easier to remember - if only I'd got married on 18th June!
