Brunswick Hussars

The summer months have been rather slow on the painting front.  I have had a unit of 12 original Brunswick Hussars on my painting table for months.

Over the last week I decided enough was enough and got my brushes out and finished the unit.


The figures are all original Hinton Hunt figures (BRN 17).  I like the one piece castings. They are slimmer than the 2 piece castings.  I am not sure when Marcus Hinton switched from one piece to two piece castings.




I have started my next unit - a unit of Alberken French Voltigeurs which I am painting as Chasseur Flankers of the Young Guard.  The green uniforms will make a nice change from the black of the Brunswickers.

    Well executed though! I've always hesitated when it comes to black uniforms, but your look lovely.

    Black uniforms and death's-head cap badges....does this mean they're the baddies?
    You've absolutely nailed them, Mark! The piebald in particular is a triumph.

      It's the first time I have painted a pie baked horse. It has come out rather nicely so I will probably do more in the future.

    Likewise in awe of the Deaths Heads and fond of the pinto/piebald which brings the unit to life. Does the white sash in the middle of the back rank signify something or is it an oversight? I'm always spotting bits I've missed when I take photos...

      Yup- the white sash, which is White and Grey at the front, is to denote an officer type.

    I absolutely love your treatment of the Brunswickers. Ferocious looking Hussars! That being said I am excited to see what you can do with the French flankers of the guard. I've got these in the rather long queue as well and would love to see how they turn out for you. Mind you, mine are poor DK copies not original Hinton Hunts!

      Hi David

      My Flankers are being recruited using Alberken/early minifigs French Voltigeurs. Although they may have a recast HH drummer added to the roster.

    They look great Mark. I really like one piece castings for a better fit of rider and horse and ease of painting--now make them from two-parters prior to undercoating.
