Rifles to me

This morning I finished the basing on a 2 companies of Hinton Hunt British Rifles.  The figures are all JC recasts which I picked up last year during a visit to Wales.

My organization for Light Infantry types is 2 companies of 6 figures and us based on the unit organization in Charge but reduced by 50%.  Light Infantry will normally be used a 6 figure independent company.

The castings are pretty good however did need a bit of cleaning up.

The bases are MDF and required 3 coats if Humbrol Grass Green to cover.

In addition to the 12 figure unit I also have my obligatory Sharpe look a like who I have chosen to represent Captain John Kincaid.

Hi Mark,

Very nice indeed! I like the unflocked bases and gloss varnish - proper wargames figures!

All the best,

DC

I'm particularly impressed by the canteen straps.

Very nice and all the better for having Kincaid rather than Sharpe. I do very much like the painting; the shade of Rifle Green looks spot on to me (or how I imagine it, rather being in the know) and the braid on the officer is great, the grey highlighting brings out the braid while still keeping it looking black (or very dark grey as Batman would say).
Not wanting to offend in any way, but if I'm allowed to ask a question it would be on the separation of the fingers from the hands - somehow doesn't quite look right to me. I've not noticed it before, do you paint all hands in that way?
Apologies if this is a bit too cheeky from one who can't paint separate fingers on 20mm figures.

Hi David.

Modern basing includes adding all sorts of scenic and flora to a base. This however detracts from the figures themselves.

Simple basing does the opposite and attracts the eye to the figure. And this is surely the reason why we paint figures in the first place.

Thanks Matt. The was little detail of a strap on the figures they were just painted on.

Hi Rob

No offence taken. The hand nf fingers looks better in the flesh - so to speak.

I use red leather and flesh forctge face but found this did not look right when used on hands.

Thanks, I would love to see them in the flesh - I also know what you mean, I find that my figures sometimes look better in real life than in my photos, although that’s probably due to failing eyesight these days.
