Royal Horse Artillery

Finished some British Royal Horse Artillery this morning.  These are recast Hinton Hunts figures and the artillery pieces are 6 Pounders from SHQ.  The SHQ pieces are nice models and work well with HH figures.

I used Vallejo Dark Prussian Blue for the jackets as I like the shade.  In fact 90% of my paints are Vallejo. There are a few exceptions however I the quality and consistency of their paint much better than other options. They are also readily available in my local Boyes.

Very nicely done figures (and photographs)! They look much larger than 20mm. More like 30mm in fact.

Superb work, Mark. The French won't like them, though.

They are nice - how many coats do use with Vallejo for a good strong colour?
Also are you planning to give the guns a lift so the crew on their bases on top of bases are cut back down to size relative to the guns?

I use an Optivisor so the figures look more like 40mm when I am painting them.

Hi Ian

I am getting a lot of practise doing buttons on these classic figures.

Hi Rob

It depends on the colour. Reds and Yellows take 2 or 3. White particularly on cross belts need 2 coats.

I am not planning on adding bases to the artillery. I am happy using them as they are.

They look marvellous Mark. One tends to focus on the beautiful figures expertly painted, but I noticed how good the guns look too. They are really fine looking models.

Mark this has been a very annoying post as it has made me start painting artillery kit - I’m in the middle of 3 Hinchliffe 20mm 10” howitzers, 3 Hinchliffe 18 pdrs, 2 Lamming 12 pdrs, 4 Hinton Hunt 6 pdrs, 1 Hinchliffe
20mm 9 pdr, 1 6 pdr, 1 5.5” howitzer and 1 spare wheel carriage, 2 Minifigs mountain howitzers, and 6 Newline 6 pdrs. And tonight I’ve started on the French kit as well.

Hi James

The artillery pieces are from SHQ (formally Kennington). They fit in well with the Hinton Hunt figures.

Hi VM

Now that it is lot of artillery. Do you also have all the gunners to paint as well?
