DBSYW - Fontenoy

I played another game of DBSYW. The set up was based on the Battle of Fontenoy and I used my Prussians to represent  the British and Allies and the Austrians as the French.

The action opened with the Prussians moving into the wood to get rid of the pesky Grenz. This fight was to last most of the game.

In the centre and left the Prussians advanced to musketry range. For the next few turns each side took hits but with the Prussians gaining the upper hand. Fontenoy is captured and the Austrians right is destroyed. With loses mounting the Austrians move their cavalry through their  Infantry in the centre gaining some initial successes.

The game is tight with each side having lost 8 units and both have a break point of 9.  The Prussians however are able to destroy an infantry unit with musketry breaking the Austrians.

Hi Mark, so nice to see your gorgeous flats slugging it oit on the table. I intend doing a Fontenoy sometime with my Austrians as French (they have alternate standard bearers for that very contingency). Unfortunately Don (Wee Wolf Miniatures) in the States is having difficulty finding time to get the SSM range back into production. I want a few more figures for the game - especialy some highlanders to clear that wood!

What a wonderful looking game. It would be very tempting to build a pair of armies with flats.
